Stanley, NC, is a small town with a population of about 4000 in Gaston County, NC. It was named after Mr. Stanley, a gold prospector who moved to the area in the 1800s. In the early days, gold mining was a major industry in Stanley. Stanley, NC is also home to the Large Leafed Magnolia tree, which was discovered by French botanist Andre’ Michaux in 1785. The tree is featured on the town’s logo.
